Mary Queen of ScotsReviewer: Ruben Schönefeld
The 16th century, so long ago, it's hard to know what the protagonists were doing, saying or even less thinking, but this movie tries anyway. Having watched other movies with Queen Elizabeth in the center of the story, it's hard to be on Mary's side and believe that she's as innocent as this movie portrays her. It's an interesting idea to have such a diverse cast, but at the same time a bit distracting because the history geek in me had to look up how diverse the royal courts of that time really were (spoiler, they were not). The Oscar nominations for costume design and makeup and hair are easy to understand and they would have deserved to win it too.
